Arts & Culture in the Columbia Valley

Artists need inspiration, and the beautiful Columbia Valley is a powerful muse. The area continues to blossom as an arts and culture destination, with an incredible diversity of artists, artisans and musicians.

Fostering the growth of arts and culture in the valley is the mandate of the Columbia Valley Arts Council (CV Arts). CV Arts, is based in the beautiful Pynelogs Cultural Centre, located at Kinsmen Beach in Invermere. CV Arts’ mission is to bring arts to the people and people to the arts.

At any given time, there is always something going on at Pynelogs. ”Just get yourself down to Pynelogs to excite your senses with music, art, film and food, there is something for everyone” says Jami Scheffer, Executive Director. “We are the cultural hub for the region, the place to experience all things cultural!”

A new venture for CV Arts is the Invermere MusicFest, scheduled for the Sunday of the August long-weekend. With the stage and Festival grounds set at the Kinsmen Beach Greenspace and Lake Windermere as a backdrop, the Invermere MusicFest: Waterfront Music Festival is a memorable, entertaining and edgy musical experience for our Columbia Valley residents and visitors.

The Mountain Mosaic Festival of the Arts (July 1) is one of our community highlights of the Invermere summer season. The festival, held in and around Pynelogs in conjunction with community Canada Day celebrations, is a free, family oriented event providing hands-on arts experiences and live entertainment for all ages.

CV Arts also presents Cinefest, an ongoing film series, a live music series featuring a mixed genre of music and styles ranging from jazz to rock, and everything in between. We also offer art workshops and artist retreats and the art gallery features the art from a variety of local artists, showcasing a mix of genres that will surely provide you with a creative experience.

CV Arts is funded by grants, donations, sponsorships, special fundraising events, memberships, ticket sales and gallery art sales, and requires a dedicated group of volunteers to co-ordinate all of these fundraising activities.
