Simplicity in Complexity

I was born and raised in New Brunswick and moved to the Columbia Valley in 2006 with the intent on staying for one ski season.  Little did I know I’d settle in, call Invermere my home, and start to raise a family of my own.  I immediately fell in love with the intense beauty of the surrounding area and it is what inspires me to express myself creatively.

While I’ve had a creative mind for most of my life, it wasn’t until I was gifted a blank canvas in my late 20’s that I tried painting. A few years after that, I picked up a pallet knife on a whim and from then on I’ve been hooked!  I am self-taught and my paintings are a mix of acrylic paint and art paper usually done on canvas, but also on re-purposed wood.  I work with pallet knives and tiny paintbrushes to achieve an overall sense of calmness, wonderment, and appreciation for the natural world around us. My artistic process often starts with an image that pops into my head when I see a blank canvas, or through my time in nature.  Sometimes the final product mimics my original idea, while other times I end up going on a completely different route!  That might be my favourite part of the process; allowing myself to be flexible and go with the flow while I’m in the moment.  Going through the struggles and eventual discovery of my current style has been, and will continue to be, a journey I will never forget. I love pushing myself to figure out and learn new techniques on personal canvases as well as through client commissions.

My art career has been a completely unexpected and fully rewarding aspect of my life.  I’ve never had something offer me so much personal growth.  Creating a piece of work that others enjoy has been a true gift and one that I do not take for granted.  For me, painting is a sanctuary and I am beyond grateful to be able to pursue an outlet that brings me so much joy.
