I am primarily a mixed media artist. I work mostly with acrylics, but occasionally work with oil and watercolour. I love the flexibility and quick dry time of acrylics. And I especially love the way they pair with mixed media products. Most of my work features a lot of texture. I use papers, pastes, gels and metallic leaf. I think of myself as an abstract artist, but I paint whatever I’m moved to paint. Sometimes I paint pure abstract and focus on texture, line and composition. Sometimes I go to my favorite subject matter for inspiration – birch trees, whimsical animals, water and flowers. I have two degrees, neither of which are in fine arts. I’ve studied painting at Alberta University of the Arts, University of Calgary and Emily Carr University, but I’ve learned the most from intensive workshops with Canadian and American artists. This year (2020) I won first place in the Federation of Canadian Artists Abstracted Exhibition for my painting “Devotion”. I am an active member of the FCA and plan to pursue my signature status next year.
